Beekeeping and honey – cooperation between nature and man
Beekeeping is one of the oldest occupations in Latvia. Centuries ago, people knew how to find wild bee cavities in trees and collect honey, but later they began to build hives and take care of bee colonies. Honey was not only a sweet treat – it was a valuable food product, a medicinal product and even a means of payment.
Bees are tireless workers of nature. Searching for flower nectar and pollen, they pollinate plants, helping to form a rich harvest and preserve the diversity of nature. Therefore, beekeeping is important not only for honey production, but also for the health of the entire ecosystem.
Honey is the only product that insects create for human consumption. Its taste, smell and color depend on the plants from which the bees collected nectar. Spring honey is soft and light, summer flower honey is rich and aromatic, but heather honey has a distinct, characteristic taste.
In Latvian traditions, honey has always been revered. It was placed on the festive table, used in healing, added to teas, cookies and honey-based beer. Honey symbolizes the generosity of nature, health and prosperity.
Beekeeping teaches patience and respect for nature. It reminds us that great things come from many small works – just like honey fills the cells drop by drop. Each spoonful of honey contains thousands of bee flights, the scent of summer flowers and human care for their apiary.
We collect different types of honey.
Bee Box Paradise Honey – Finnish-made polystyrene hives
In our apiary, the bees live in Finnish-made Paradise Honey polystyrene hives – a system created for the harsh climatic conditions of Northern Europe and perfected over 40 years of professional beekeeping experience. These hives have been tested in both the harsh Finnish winters and hot summers, proving their reliability in a wide variety of conditions.
Their main advantage is excellent thermal insulation. In winter, bees consume less energy to maintain the required temperature, while in spring the colonies develop faster and are ready to fully utilize the first flower nectar. In summer, the hives also protect the colony from excessive overheating.
Paradise Honey hives are made of high-density food-safe polystyrene, which is lightweight, moisture-resistant and durable. Ergonomic handles and a durable construction make the beekeeper’s work easier, while the unified system allows you to conveniently manage the entire apiary.
We choose modern solutions while maintaining respect for beekeeping traditions. That is why in our apiary, technology serves the bees, not the other way around.
